Become a vital part of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission as an Event Manager, overseeing the execution of 15-20 impactful events each year. This role provides the chance to lead diverse events from start to finish, ensuring each one is well-organized and memorable while contributing to GCSC’s mission and initiatives.

The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission (GCSC) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the Greater Cleveland area through sports. As a non-profit organization, GCSC partners with local businesses, government agencies, and community organizations to create opportunities for residents and visitors alike to engage in a wide array of athletic experiences. Our mission centers on making Cleveland a premier destination for major events. 
 
Why This Role is for You: 
  • Operational Guru: As an Event Manager, you will take charge of small and medium-sized events, ensuring every detail is handled smoothly and that participants have a positive experience. In the case of Cleveland hosting Major Events, your role will include leading crucial elements on behalf of our community.  
  • Shape Event Strategy: Event Managers are the driving force behind hosting successful events by working diligently with events rights holders to oversee production schedules, develop comprehensive event plans, and create insightful post-event recaps that drive future improvements. 
  • Staffing Leads: Event Managers act as the staffing coordinators for all Sports Commission events. GCSC Staff, interns, event crews, paid community groups, and/or union labor needs are reliant on Event Managers.   
  • Build Relationships: Event Managers are the key to continued and future success of the Sports Commission. You will be the front-line liaison fostering partnerships with community stakeholders and vendors to enhance event success and community engagement. 
  • Support Volunteers: Manage the Volunteer Program by recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers, making a direct impact on their experience and the events they help create. 
  • Mentor Interns: GCSC interns play a pivotal role in the success of events at the Sports Commission. Event Managers will oversee an intern through each semester of the year and are relied on to mentor and grow future ambassadors of the work of the Sports Commission.  
 
Who You Are: 
  • A proactive and organized individual with 3-5 years of event management experience, ready to take on challenges and deliver high-quality results. 
  • A leader who thrives in engaging with diverse groups, including volunteers, vendors, and leadership teams. 
  •  Flexible for evening and weekend hours, hard working individual to provide hands on execution to get the job done. 
  • Budget-savvy, with an ability to manage the financial aspects of events while ensuring cost-effective planning. 
  • Creative and adaptable, with the ability to solve problems and make confident decisions. 
  • A dedicated team player who thrives in a collaborative environment
