Chef assistant
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Cook to join B Riley Sober House team.
We are a Therapeutic Community based Treatment facility that assists LGBTQ+ and allies to overcome substance use disorder. We are a substance free workplace; hence the applicant must pass a drug screen , fingerprinting and background check. A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required. The Assistant Cook will support the Head Chef in meal preparation, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to the residents and clients while maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation. The Assistant must be available to prepare, and serve meals for special events, Holidays and requests as needed from our community. Duties:
Availability as follows:
Friday: 12 noon to 5:30pm
Saturday: 8:00AM to 4:00PM
Sunday: 8:00AM to 4:00PM
Holidays, special events, and/or other needs as requested

Preparing and serving meals with the assistance of residents and clients that have been assigned kitchen duties by the Therapeutic Community. Provide breakfast items for residents and clients, including, but not limited to a hot breakfast as needed

Supervises any resident in the kitchen, ensuring that Serve Safe practices are utilized and maintained throughout the entire day.

Help with food preparation activities, such as cleaning, cutting, chopping, mixing and peeling food ingredients. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. with ease.

Collaborate with the Chef to ensure timely and efficient meal service during the day-to-day operation of the kitchen.

Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment: including but not limited to cleaning, sanitizing kitchen surfaces and stations, washing dishes, pots, pans, glassware, utensils and emptying garbage. Enforces safety and sanitation best practices as outlined through Serve Safe.

Support Holidays, special events and/or other needs as requested by the Theraputic Community assisting in food setup and service

Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures based on company and industry hygiene codes and health/ safety standards.

Assist in inventory management and ordering supplies as needed
Skills:
-
Previous experience in a culinary role or kitchen environment is preferred ( 1 year minimum) with the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Serve Safe certified preferred. Current CPR / First Aid certified preferred.

Knowledge of food handling, preparation techniques, and knife skills

Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen setting; with attention to excellent time management skills, detail, and communication skills.

Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members, residents and clients.

Willingness to learn and take direction from the Head Chef, and Staff as needed.

Understanding of dietary restrictions and special dietary needs is a plus.
