Education Manager

Supervises: Company Teaching Artists, Hourly Teaching Artists

Status: Full Time, 40 hrs average/week

Compensation: $40,000-$43,000/year

 

Description: Education Manager (EM) is a full time position averaging 40 hours per week.  EMs will still be expected to teach, so they should be passionate educators invested in inclusive teaching practices with flexible schedules and a reliable method of transportation.  TCT has the stated goal of being the most inclusive theatre in Cleveland and TCT offers classes for students ages 6 months - adults, so candidates should be comfortable teaching a range of ages and abilities.  EM candidates should have strong classroom management and leadership skills, as they will support the Director of Education in the onboarding and training of new Teaching Artists (TAs).  EMs will be responsible for assisting the Director of Education in the supervision and assessment of Teaching Artists through their roles as in-house class & camp manager.  Education Manager will oversee and implement workshop, semester, and year-long class sessions as well as up to 12 weeks of summer camps.  

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Education Administration (Year-Round)

  • Build and maintain educational offerings in Ludus, or the current software being used by TCT

    • Oversee invoicing of all families for classes, camps, workshops, events, and more

    • Promote and accept donations at all educational offerings 

  • Collect and submit payroll for all education staff

    • Collect and submit all new hire paperwork for new education staff

    • Review and edit all education staff time sheets

    • Compile all education employee hours & rates and submit them to the TCT board treasurer or Executive Director by the 10th & 25th of each month 

  • Monitor the phone and email communications coming in, and respond in a timely manner to any regarding educational offerings

  • Assist in the collect, maintenance, and submission of participant data and feedback for all participants of education programming

  • Assist the Director of Education in writing and submitting Teaching Artist contracts for classes & camps at TCT

  • Serve as the on-site administrator during in-house programming

    • Greet students and parents as they arrive and answer any questions they may have

    • Facilitate the signing in and signing out of students attending classes and camps

  • Attend a bi-weekly meeting with the Education Department to discuss ongoing programming, identify potential issues and solutions, peer-share resources, and discuss upcoming opportunities

  • Attend weekly staff-wide meetings and other required meetings and trainings as needed

 

Class Manager (September - May)

  • Implement and manage all workshop, semester, and year-round classes at TCT

    • Assist the Director of Education with TA placement for class assignments

    • Supervise and support the TAs during class sessions (Tuesday - Friday nights & Saturdays)

    • Prepare materials for TAs for class sessions

    • Prepare administrative materials for class sessions

    • Serve as TIC support for up to 35 students during class sessions

    • Serve as first person to sub for a TA in an emergency situation

    • Be the first person in the chain of command for the Teaching Artists to come to for support, materials, or questions

    • Support the Director of Education with training TAs for classes

    • Set up and strike class spaces before and after sessions as we share space with production and they will need access to all of our classroom spaces in the times we are not using them

    • Assist the Director of Education with developing curriculum guides for all classes at TCT

    • Provide in the field support and training to class teaching artists

  • Support in the organization and maintenance of education supplies

    • physical supplies in the storage closet, classrooms, and education office

    • digital files in the TCT google drive 

 

Camp Manager (May - August)

  • Serve as the Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) manager for camp from 8:00-4:00 daily, with a paid lunch break 12:45-1:45.  

    • Facilitate the landing activity, morning and afternoon assemblies, as well as prepare the materials for snack and craft sessions

    • Intervene and lead one-on-one TIC conversations with students who are:

      • Establishing patterns of disruptive behavior

      • Violating or potentially violating the safety of themselves or others 

        • (this is not limited to but including; bullying, name-calling, offensive language, lack of spatial awareness, inability to keep hands/feet to themselves, refusal to listen to instructors, leaving the classroom without permission, etc.)

      • In the midst of a crisis or meltdown

      • In need of a sensory break

      • In need of a break for unspecified reasons

  • Be the first person in the chain of command for the Teaching Artists to come to for support, materials, or questions

  • Prepare administrative materials for camp 

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Education to develop curriculum for the camps

  • Lead group activities in the morning and afternoon assemblies for up to 70 campers

  • May lead activities throughout the day to train or demonstrate to new teaching artists, or to fill in while a TA runs to the restroom

  • Serve as the last minute substitute if any other subs are not available.  In this case, the Camp Administrator on site will fill in as camp TIC manager.

  • Assist the onboarding and training of summer teaching artists in the weeks prior to camp

  • Provide in the field support and training to summer teaching artists



 

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work/life experience required; preferably in Theatre, Arts Administration, Nonprofit Management, Education, or a related field

  • 5+ years as a teaching artist, teacher/facilitator in a community setting, or similar work/life experience

  • 2+ years in a supervisory or management role of adults with diverse backgrounds and needs or similar life experiences

  • 2+ years experience working with youth with disabilities or similar life experience

  • 2+ years experience working with youth of diverse backgrounds or similar life experiences
