Assistive Technology Specialist
The Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Cuyahoga DD) is seeking an Assistive Technology Specialist (ATS) to assess an individual’s/agency’s ability to utilize assistive technology and provide technical support for the selection, acquisition, adaptation, and usage of assistive technology systems. The nature of work will include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Engage in collaborative consultation with school districts, Cuyahoga DD, families, and community partners and assist in the development of recommendations and ongoing support for assistive technology users.
- Assess, train, and direct intervention with individuals using assistive technology systems, their families and appropriate professional staff.
- Evaluate and maintain various types of hardware, software, and peripheral equipment for preview and evaluation purposes.
- Coordinate and/or conduct inter/intra-agency instruction related to the use of assistive technology to develop/enhance skills in the areas of environmental control, academics, literacy, communication, leisure, and vocational/habilitation skills and home safety/monitoring.
- Ongoing attendance at in-services, workshops, courses for professional development, especially to maintain current knowledge of available assistive technology.
- Coordinate and assist in locating available funding sources to purchase individual assistive technology systems/equipment.
- Act as a resource person to share and/or loan software and equipment, and provide information regarding how to access these items for preview or purchase.
- Maintain a listing of companies/vendors/agencies that have assistive technology equipment available for evaluation, or for lease/purchase, as well as a reference library of information for the various usages of an assistive technology system.
- Collaborate with other members of the Assistive Technology Department to develop and/or revise procedures and protocol for Assistive Technology services.
- Participate in inter/intra-agency committees, projects, or teams and deliver in-service training as requested or approved by supervisor.
- Make intra-agency referrals to other disciplines to assist in assessment/recommendations.
SALARY RANGE: $47,048.00 to $65,344.00. Negotiable based on education, experience, and overall qualifications.

Qualifications
Candidates are required to have the following:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, therapy or a related field.
- At least two years' experience in assessment and adaptation of customized assistive technology peripherals/software/switches for an individual’s functional use, within classrooms, homes, and/or worksites.
- Valid state of Ohio driver's license and continued maintenance of excellent driving record.
The preferred candidate will also have the following credentials:
- Three years' experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
- Possess or be eligible for appropriate Ohio Department of Education license.
- Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) Certification which is issued by RESNA (Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America).
