ENTRY-LEVEL ASSOCIATE
Matt Rolf Attorney LLC is a real estate law practice with a new focus on environmentally sustainable, transit-oriented properties. We seek to represent individuals and companies who are buying, selling, renovating, leasing, or building property near frequent service fixed-route public transit. Estate planning and probate work is a smaller but significant part of the practice. Our clientele is multiracial, and we serve the LGBTQ+ community.
Matt Rolf Attorney LLC is hiring staff for its existing office on Shaker Square. We’re looking for a detail-oriented, exceptionally organized attorney near the beginning of their career who is excited to increase our capacity for client work.
As a full-time entry level associate, you will assist in handling our diverse caseload. Your responsibilities will include conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and representing clients’ interests in court. You’ll collaborate with the senior attorney and work with support staff to serve client needs. Your work will be critical to the success of the firm.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Legal Research (30%)
- Research case fact patterns to help the senior attorney assess potential matters
- Research complex legal questions for current cases and summarize findings in briefs
- Review client provided documents, evidence, and exhibits, categorizing and summarizing the important parts of a case
- Research issues of property title and/or inheritance in a variety of matters
Drafting and Creating Documents (30%)
- Draft legal pleadings including dispositive motions, requests for relief, administrative pleadings, and appellate briefs and motions
- Draft correspondence to be reviewed by the senior attorney
- Draft support documentation for legal pleadings
- Draft deeds, transfer-on-death designation affidavits, leases, land contracts, and other conveyances
- Draft and review wills, advance directives, and powers of attorney
Litigation Support (20%)
- Manage the discovery process, including issuing interrogatories, reviewing documents, and coordinating client discovery disclosures and responses
- Organize client files, both electronic and paper
- Attend court hearings in-person and virtual as necessary
- Conduct consultations with clients as necessary
- Assist with depositions, mediations, and litigation
Revenue Development (20%)
- Assist the senior attorney with invoicing of client matters
- Maintain documents that track the revenue and time of the firm
- Communicate with clients to ensure the prompt payment of invoices
- Keep record of time in billing system
WHAT YOU MAY HAVE ALREADY DONE
- Experience in a previous role as an associate in a detail-heavy office focused on transactional real estate matters or litigation
- Used an Apple Mac computer, and applications like Pages, Preview, Mail, BusyCal, BusyContacts, Things, Timenet Law, Photos, and Numbers
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
A J.D. degree from an accredited law school, and admission to the Ohio Bar (candidates with admission pending to the Ohio Bar in 2022 are encouraged to apply)
